psalm 16

december 30, 2021

Imagine a young child and all they would get into without guidance and direction from their parents. You may know firsthand what they can accomplish when left unattended. A child without love and boundaries is often left feeling insecure and running in every direction. Children need companionship, guidance, and instruction to feel happy and safe.

In this Psalm, David begins by asking God to keep him safe. It is God’s presence within David that brings him real security. As we live out this life on earth and seek to know God deeper, His ways will be known to us. Just like that child/parent relationship, there is a sense of security when we are confident in knowing what is right in God’s eyes and that He will never leave us. He keeps us from straying, bringing contentment and true joy.
